Ministry at Pilgrim
Ministry is varied and vital at Pilgrim as we seek to love God, and our neighbors. All people are welcome to join any group or meeting at Pilgrim. If you have a skill, talent, or desire to help in a certain way, and it is not currently available at Pilgrim, please call the office or suggest it to the pastor. Your input at Pilgrim is encouraged. Worship Worship is always at the center of the Christian Church. In worship, the people gathered together: - praise God in song, words, and prayer - confess their sins and hear God's word of forgiveness - hear God's Word in scripture, sermon, and hymns - pray for the world, the Church, and all those in need - receive Holy Communion weekly as Jesus Christ present in the bread and wine - respond in offerings to support ministry locally and far away Pilgrim Church welcomes all people to worship on Sunday morning at 8:45 a.m. and at 10:00 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their children of all ages to worship with them. A nursery is provided for young children at the 10:00 AM service. The 10:00 service is broadcast weekly on AM 850. Sunday School A Sunday School Hour is provided weekly at 8:45 AM from the Sunday after Labor Day until mid-May. There are classes for children from age 4 through 6th grade. Confirmation instruction for teenage students is offered on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM for both 8th & 9th grades. Eucharistic Ministry This volunteer ministry is comprised of laypersons within the congregation who support homebound members with monthly visits. These visits include some casual conversation, greetings from Pilgrim Church, and the distribution of the elements of Holy Communion. This is a new ministry to Pilgrim in 2005. Music: Choir & Hand Bells Music has always been an important part of the life of Pilgrim Church and new singers and ringers are always welcome. Consider making music with one of these groups: - Pilgrim Choir. They rehearse on Tuesday at 5:30 PM and sing 3 times a month and at special services. - Senior Hand Bells. They rehearse on Wednesday at 5:30 PM and play once a month. - Grace Notes. A Women's Choir which rehearses on Tuesday at 6:30 PM and sings on occasional Sunday mornings and at special events. The Pilgrim Women and the parish musicians host the annual Advent Vesper Tea in mid-December. It is a great afternoon of Advent and Christmas music and Scandinavian food. Youth Pilgrim Church encourages a strong youth program and youth involvement in the life of the parish. During the school year (Sept. thru May) the youth meet in our Youth Room periodically on Sundays for Bible study, fun, and food. Numerous computer games are available when a Youth Director is present. The Youth enjoy trips locally for a variety of activities, often combining with other local churches. Summer events are planned for camping, helping others in housing rehabilitation, and other recreational activities. Women's Group The Pilgrim Lutheran Church Women (PLCW) meets every other month from September until May on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at noon for lunch. Contact office, or see web site calendar for dates. Bible Study, and a short meeting. The PLCW sponsors a Spring Salad Luncheon and contributes generously to many charitable organizations. They also organize the beautiful Santa Lucia Vesper Tea event every year. Pilgrim Men in Mission The mission of Pilgrim Men in Mission is to establish and promote fellowship and faith in all members of the Church through prayer, work, and fellowship. The mission of this group is carried out through projects such as: King's Men, Mariner's Sunday, Semi-Annual Work days, Christmas Decorations, Annual Luther Point Men's Retreat, Luther Point Clean Up Days, Youth Mentoring, Seniors Help Events, Occasional Youth and All-church events, and Community Support events. All men are welcome. Quilters From September through May, several women gather in the Fellowship Hall to make quilts. Hundreds of quilts are then distributed locally and throughout the world to people needing warmth and shelter. There is always room for more quilters. Gifts of money or material from many people keep this valuable ministry alive and well. The Quilters meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 9:00-11:00 AM. They have the best coffee breaks in town! King's Men King's Men is an ecumenical men's group that meets for breakfast and a presentation on the 2nd Thursday at 6:45-7:30 AM. from September through May. Men from the Twin Ports and the surrounding area are invited to attend. Speakers include residents of the Twin Ports who show how the Christian faith motivates people in many different walks of life to be the light of Christ in our community. Altar Guild The people of the Altar Guild are responsible for the upkeep and use of the furnishings and sacramental elements used in Holy Baptism and Communion. They also care for such things as altar cloths, candles, and banners. In Pilgrim's commitment to provide weekly Holy Communion, the Altar Guild is an active group and always welcomes new workers. The nature of the service provided by the Altar Guild calls for workers with a love for the Church and an attention to detail.
